hi – i updated my mums cpu to windows 7 and all is good – except the usual no sound problem . .
however – all the usual methods of fixing this problem are not working .

i cant update the driver because no driver is found ( iv checked this thru device manager, which i cant update and nothing found via dxdiag ) . . so i went searching online for the motherboard updates ( its a packard bell pc, motherboard id is SIS-651 ) and i can find plenty of updates and drivers for XP, but absolutely nothing for Win 7. . ive checked the SIS sites, pc tech sites, ive downloaded various driver torrents and obviously various realtek codecs and drivers – still nothing. .

Arrrrgggghhh – two minute job which takes hours – typical lol, what i would really appreciate is advice or web address to get the required driver, or do i need to go buy a soundcard ?

o ye – on the device manager – its the vga, pci and realtek ac97 which are highlited yellow – but as i say – wont let me update

thanks for any suggestions

Recently I ran updates for Windows 7 32 bit Ultimate and there was a Media Center update. Updates completed successfully but now media center crashes sometimes on start up and whenever trying to playback video files ranging from avi to mkv. Thought it was just a Media Center problem but then attempted to play the videos via Windows Media Player and the player attempted to but then crashed, tried this again and it crashed instantly then blue screened. Is it possible that my Codecs are corrupted? Should I be looking at it being an update problem? Or does this sound more like a hardware problem, ie hard disk dying? Thanks for the help.Submited by:

max asked:

I previously had Windows XP but upgraded to 7 because it was obviously a lot better, but Win7 did not recognise I had a sound card (HP Pavilion dv2000) which had happened to everybody with the same laptop as me. Just to note, I removed the Windows.old file to free up space. No matter how many drivers and codecs I installed, no sound card was recognised.

I then decided to put Windows XP onto a disk and tried installing it (reverting back would restore my sound – at the cost of no windows 7) but on the ‘splash screen’ where I said install was dimmed down and nothing happened when I clicked on it.

I was thinking of installing Linux and then WinXP from there, would that do it or would I be stuck with Linux? Or any other solutions that could help get me back to Windows XP…
Thanks a lot

I just recently got this new gatway intel E5700 Dual Core processor, and I can open up pictures when I put my SD card in the SD card reader, but when I click on a video that I made with my Digital camera a dialogue box pops up and says Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file. How do I get my videos to play and open up? Where can I find the right codecs to use. I’m so used to XP on my old computer, and still getting used to Windows 7. I remember on my older computer these types of videos played on quick time player, but I guess the default player on my new computer is Windows media player. How do I get my videos to play on Windows media player, or play anywhere? Any information will be helpful. thanks.

By:
